Crazy Conversations: boy or girl?

My eldest asked us if her previous dance teacher, Miss Denise, was a boy or a girl. We asked her what she thought and she responded with 'boy'. We asked her why. Her answer? 'Because it's Mister'. We were in stitches! She thought her name was Mister Niece. I love the way a 6 year old's brain works :)

Opening Post

I suppose I should write a little something about where this blog has come from. I was sat with my children this afternoon and was thinking about all the blogging I used to do. I really enjoyed it. It was a lovely way to remember all the family things we did and all the little everyday stuff. Something to look back on and enjoy. I stopped blogging when my youngest had a bad fall - I wanted to write about what had happened and work through my feelings about it, but I couldn't bring myself to publish it. My blog no longer felt right.

I realised that I didn't want to go back to that same blog as it doesn't seem to 'fit' anymore, so I needed a new name. And within a few minutes, Hygge And Stitches was born!

I guess now is a good time to tell you that my husband is Danish, hence 'hygge'. It's a Danish word but doesn't have a one-word meaning. It kind of means cosy but incorporates feelings as well. I nabbed this from the Visit Denmark website: "hygge means creating a nice, warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people around you. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that's hygge too." Clear as mud...?

Stitches has come from my love of sewing and crochet. I crochet (just a little bit) most evenings but I haven't been able to sew for a while. I'm notorious for not finishing things so my WIP (work in progress) pile is a little large.... I'm trying not to start new projects until I've finished some but it's hard when I see something that I want to make!

So there you have it. Hygge and Stitches. Enjoy :)
